Reports To: Senior Technical Manager, Forestry
ACR is an internationally recognized carbon crediting program operating in global compliance and voluntary carbon markets. As a nonprofit enterprise of Winrock International, ACR was founded in 1996 as the first private greenhouse gas (GHG) registry in the world, with the mission of harnessing market power to improve the environment. ACR has over two decades of experience in developing rigorous, science-based methodologies and standards for carbon accounting, as well as operational expertise in project listing, verification, registration, issuance, serialization, and online retirement reporting.
ACR functions as an independent standards body and registry, approved for various programs including the California Cap-and-Trade Program and the Washington State Cap-and-Invest Program. It is also authorized by ICAO to supply credits under CORSIA and has been recognized as a CCP-Eligible program by ICVCM. ACR is poised to expand into new compliance offset markets and increase its role in the global voluntary carbon market.
The Forestry Technical Officer/Technical Manager provides technical support within ACR, assisting the Forestry Director and other team members. Responsibilities include reviewing projects, maintaining record systems, attending site visits, and supporting external stakeholders to ensure compliance with ACR, CARB, and Ecology standards. The role requires a solid understanding of GHG emissions and carbon accounting principles, familiarity with relevant regulations and methodologies, and strong analytical skills. The position demands attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to Winrock's mission.
Education: Bachelor's or higher degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, GHG emissions accounting, or related fields. Advanced degrees preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant experience for a Technical Officer; at least 6 years for a Technical Manager. Familiarity with forest quantification, GHG principles, verification standards, and ACR methodologies required.
Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, GIS, and SharePoint; strong writing and communication skills; fluency in English; willingness to travel 1-3 times/year; strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; ability to work independently and in teams.
Other: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship available).
The salary range is $65,000 - $115,000 per year, based on experience and responsibilities. Winrock offers a comprehensive benefits package.
