Job summary

Primrose School of West McDonough is seeking a Preschool Chef to plan and prepare nutritious meals for children from six weeks through five years at a school with capacity for up to 212 children. You will cook meals from scratch using fresh fruits and vegetables and ensure meals meet dietary needs.

In addition to cooking, you will manage allergies, follow safety procedures, track inventory, and collaborate with teachers to keep mealtime routines.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in food preparation and cooking.
• Criminal background check and drug testing required.
• Willing to obtain ServSafe Certification, Basic First Aid and CPR.
• Experience in quality and quantity food preparation and inventory control.
• Knowledge of nutrition and food sanitation.
• A teamwork mindset and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan and prepare nutritious meals and snacks for children six weeks through five years, cooking from scratch with fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Maintain and track food allergies, communicate allergies to teachers daily with every delivery.
• Follow food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures and keep a clean kitchen.
• Manage and purchase food and paper goods and keep inventory records.
• Comply with Bright from the Start and ServSafe regulations and provide good customer service.

Nurture a child's first five years by:

• Planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children ages six weeks through five years (infant through Pre-Kindergarten), at a school with capacity for up to 212 children — including cooking meals from scratch and using fresh fruits and vegetables
• Maintaining and tracking food allergies for each child, ensuring all children receive only allowed foods, providing alternatives for allergies or dietary restrictions, and communicating identified allergies to teachers daily with every food delivery
• Following proper food safety, food handling, and sanitation procedures, and maintaining a clean kitchen after preparation and serving of meals
• Managing and purchasing all food and paper goods, and keeping inventory records as required by local and state agencies
• Complying with all Bright from the Start and ServSafe regulations
• Providing excellent customer service and a positive attitude toward parents and children
• Working with school leaders and classroom teachers to keep daily mealtime schedules and routines consistent
• Providing occasional support in classrooms to help maintain required staff-to-child ratios, as needed

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably in a child care center, elder care or assisted living facility, or K-12 school
• Comprehensive criminal background check and drug testing required
• Willing and able to obtain and maintain ServSafe Certification, Basic First Aid and CPR, and other Bright from the Start mandated training
• Experience in quality and quantity food preparation and inventory control
• Knowledge of nutrition, basic food preparation, and food sanitation
• A teamwork mindset, strong communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability
• Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs, plus standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and repetitive motion

Salary Range

$14.00–$18.00 per hour

Shift Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM (Different schedules available)
