Job summary

Jobtailor in Massachusetts seeks an experienced flight nurse to deliver advanced nursing care during aeromedical transport from initial contact to handoff at the destination facility. The role requires critical care and flight experience, an active RN license, and CFRN/CCRN/CEN certifications.

You will work across bases, on-call 24-hour shifts, collaborating with pilots and medical teams while maintaining thorough documentation.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Minimum three years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years
  • One year of full-time flight experience required
  • Current RN license for states of practice where Air Methods CBS locations
  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications
  • Current TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if required by state or county
  • Specialty certification required: CFRN, CCRN, or CEN
  • NRP certification
  • NIMS Training: IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat
  • Weight not exceeding 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots
  • Clinical skills required by the applicable state scope of practice and Medical Director standards
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including 24-hour shifts, overtime, and on-call rotations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong critical thinking, reasoning, organization, and attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field preferred
  • Pre-hospital experience preferred
  • Nurse compact license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care within scope of practice from initial contact until handoff to the accepting medical facility
  • Assess, triage, and treat critically ill or injured patients for safe transport to the appropriate facility
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation
  • Maintain clinical knowledge and psychomotor competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences
  • Keep licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures documentation current
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Air Methods CBS equipment and supplies
  • Report equipment failures, coordinate repairs, and maintain adequate onboard patient-care supplies
  • Keep aircraft clean and organized for rapid response capability
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and debriefings and complete required documentation
  • Participate in pre-mission checklists and assist the pilot with radio, navigation, and visual observation activities as requested
  • Follow safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings when needed
  • Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced skills and procedures
  • Participate in patient follow-up, referring-institution coordination, outreach marketing, and education activities
  • Precept and/or participate in orientation of new employees and students
  • Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities
  • Support multiple Clinical Flight Teams at bases in regions where currently licensed
  • Maintain availability for at least two 24-hour shifts per week at any CBS base where currently licensed; travel is 85%
  • Perform other duties as assigned
