Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a highly skilled travel nurse with critical care experience to support aviation medical teams across assignments in the United States. You will manage patient transport, provide advanced nursing care, and ensure documentation and safety protocols are met in dynamic environments.

Requirements include RN licensure, certifications (ACLS/PALS/TNCC) and relevant trauma coursework. Expect 24-hour shifts, extensive travel, and base-location flexibility as needed.

Qualifications

  • RN with active license and state compliance.
  • Current BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS where required.
  • CFRN, CCRN, or CEN certifications preferred.
  • NIMS training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality critical care from initial contact until handover.
  • Establish and prioritize care for safe transport of critical patients.
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation.
  • Maintain and operate aircraft medical equipment; report failures.
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and assist with liftoff checks.
  • Comply with safety standards and briefings.
  • Serve as flight resource for neonatal/pediatric teams and advanced skills.
  • Participate in follow-up and outreach education.
  • Precept and orient new staff and students.
  • Participate in meetings and publishing opportunities.

Job description

  • Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, from initial contact until care is transferred to the accepting medical facility
  • Establish and prioritize care needed for safe transport of critical patients
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation
  • Maintain competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences
  • Maintain documentation of licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures
  • Use and routinely maintain aircraft medical equipment and supplies
  • Report equipment failures and take initial steps to arrange repairs
  • Maintain adequate onboard supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
  • Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio, navigation, and visual observation activities as requested
  • Comply with safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed
  • Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced skills and procedures
  • Participate in patient and referring institution follow-up and outreach marketing and education activities
  • Precept and/or orient new employees and students as assigned
  • Participate in Air Methods CBS meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities
Requirements
  • Must reside greater than 4 hours from the assigned location
  • Scheduling flexibility to allow up to 14-day assignments
  • Flexibility of assigned base location, determined by operational need and subject to change
  • More than 50% travel
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years, or as required by state/local EMS regulations
  • Current RN license(s) for states of practice
  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent, and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced-provider certifications as required by state or county regulations
  • Specialty certification required: CFRN, CCRN, or CEN
  • One approved advanced trauma course before completion of third-rider orientation: TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved course, with accompanying advanced skills lab
  • NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat upon hire
  • Weight must not exceed 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots
  • Nursing skills within assigned state scope of practice and advanced skills defined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including 24-hour shifts, overtime, and on-call rotation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong critical-thinking, reasoning, prioritization, multitasking, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
