Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Flight Nurse to provide high-quality critical care from initial contact through handoff, supporting multiple Clinical Flight Teams at CBS bases. You will maintain documentation, coordinate with pilots and medical staff, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

The ideal candidate holds an RN license, 3+ years in critical care or emergency nursing, and flight nursing experience, with required certifications and the ability to travel up to 85% of the time.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Minimum three years of recent critical care/emergency nursing.
  • One year of full-time flight nursing experience.
  • Current RN license in states of practice where CBS operates.
  • EMS or MICN certification as required by state regulations.
  • BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications.
  • TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if required.
  • Certifications: CFRN, CCRN, or CEN.
  • NRP certification.
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, HazMat.
  • Weight not exceeding 225 pounds including gear.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including 24-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a flight resource for neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform advanced procedures.
  • Travel 85% of the time.

Job description


  • Provide high-quality nursing care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, from initial contact through handoff to the accepting medical facility

  • Assess illness or injury and prioritize care for safe transport of critical patients

  • Support multiple Clinical Flight Teams at bases where currently licensed

  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation

  • Maintain clinical knowledge, psychomotor skills, licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA compliance, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures

  • Operate and maintain Air Methods CBS equipment and supplies; report failures and coordinate repairs

  • Maintain patient care supplies and aircraft cleanliness and organization

  • Attend pre-mission briefings and debriefings, complete documentation, participate in checklists, and assist pilots with radio, navigation, and visual observation activities

  • Comply with safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings when needed

  • Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures

  • Participate in patient follow-up, referring institution coordination, outreach marketing, and education activities

  • Precept and/or orient new employees and students

  • Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities

  • Maintain availability for at least two 24-hour shifts per week at any CBS base where currently licensed

  • Travel 85% of the time


Requirements


  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

  • Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last 5 years, or as required by state/local EMS regulations

  • One year of full-time flight nursing experience required

  • Current RN license(s) for states of practice where Air Methods maintains CBS locations

  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations

  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications as required

  • TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if state or county required

  • Specialty certification required: CFRN, CCRN, or CEN

  • One acceptable advanced trauma certification: TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TPATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course

  • Current NRP certification

  • NIMS Training: IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat

  • Maintain weight not exceeding 225 pounds including empty flight suit and boots

  • Clinical skills within applicable state scope of practice and advanced skills defined by Medical Director(s)

  • Ability to work flexible schedules including 24-hour shifts, overtime, and on-call rotations

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Dependable and self-motivated in a frequently changing environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
