Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States seeks an experienced RN specializing in critical care and pre-hospital transport to join our flight nursing team. You will assess and treat critically ill patients, support liftoff and navigation, and ensure safe transfer to the appropriate facility.

The role requires current RN license, BLS/ACLS, CFRN/CEN preferred, and flexibility for on-call rotations. Travel ~5% and ongoing training are part of the job; prior flight or pre-hospital experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing within the last five years.
  • Current RN license(s) for states of practice.
  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations.
  • Current BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications.
  • Current PALS or equivalent certification if required by state or county.
  • Current TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if required by state or county.
  • CFRN or CEN specialty certification required within 24 months of hire.
  • TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course before completion of third-rider training.
  • NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation.
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat before completion of third-rider training.
  • Maintain weight not to exceed 225 pounds, including empty flight suit and boots.
  • Nursing skills within assigned state scope of practice and advanced practice skills defined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • High critical-thinking, reasoning, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field preferred but not required.
  • Pre-hospital experience preferred; flight experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, for critically ill or injured patients
  • Establish and prioritize care required for safe transport to the appropriate medical facility
  • Provide nursing care from initial contact until patient care is transferred to the accepting facility
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation
  • Maintain clinical competency through ongoing laboratory, clinical, aviation, safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and continuing-education training
  • Use and maintain aircraft medical equipment and supplies; report equipment failures and support repairs
  • Keep aircraft clean, orderly, and adequately supplied for rapid transport response
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
  • Assist with liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio, navigational, and visual-observation activities
  • Conduct aircraft safety briefings and comply with safety standards
  • Provide flight support to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures
  • Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up
  • Participate in outreach marketing and education activities
  • Precept and/or orient new employees and students
  • Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities
  • Travel approximately 5% of the time
