Job summary

Jobtailor in Maryland seeks an experienced critical care nurse to provide high-quality patient care for the transport of critical patients. You will perform assessment, triage, and treatment, deliver nursing care from first contact through handoff to the accepting facility, and maintain thorough documentation.

You will operate with Air Methods CBS equipment, participate in pre-mission briefings, support pilots, ensure safety compliance, and maintain certifications.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last five years or as required by state/local EMS regulations.
  • Current RN license(s) for states of practice (MD & PA).
  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations (PHRN or active Paramedic license required).
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications as required.
  • Current TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if state or county required.
  • Specialty certification (CFRN or CEN) required within 24 months of hire.
  • TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course before completion of third-rider training.
  • NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation.
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat before completion of third-rider training.
  • Maintain a weight not to exceed 225 pounds, including an empty flight suit and boots.
  • Nursing skills within assigned state scope of practice and advanced practice skills defined by Medical Director(s) and Medical Standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • High critical thinking, reasoning, attention to detail, prioritization, and multitasking abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, for safe transport of critical patients.
  • Provide nursing care from initial patient contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility.
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation.
  • Maintain clinical competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences and continuing education.
  • Use and maintain all Air Methods CBS equipment and supplies; report equipment failures and initiate repairs as directed.
  • Maintain adequate onboard supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly for rapid response.
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation.
  • Assist with pre-mission liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio, navigation, and visual observation activities as requested.
  • Comply with safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed.
  • Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced skills and procedures.
  • Participate in patient and referring institution follow-up and outreach marketing and education activities.
  • Precept and/or orient new employees and students as assigned.
  • Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled attendance; travel approximately 5% of the time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
