Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a seasoned RN for critical care transport, providing high‑level nursing care from initial contact to handoff at the receiving facility. You will assess patients, triage, and maintain meticulous documentation in a demanding pre-hospital setting.

Required are an accredited nursing education, active RN licensure, and BLS/ACLS/PALS with advanced trauma certifications. A commitment to ongoing education and compliance with safety standards is essential.

Qualifications

  • RN licensure in states of practice
  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
  • Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications
  • Current advanced trauma provider certification (TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS) if required
  • Specialty certification (CFRN or CEN) within 24 months of hire
  • NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat
  • Skills to practice nursing within the assigned state scope of practice

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality critical care during patient transport
  • Assess illness or injury and prioritize care for safe transport
  • Provide nursing care from initial contact until handoff to the accepting facility
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation
  • Maintain clinical competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences
  • Maintain licensure, certifications, continuing education, and specialized training
  • Use and maintain medical equipment; report failures and initiate repairs
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
  • Assist with liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio/navigation tasks
  • Conduct aircraft safety briefings and comply with safety standards
  • Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform advanced procedures
  • Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up and outreach activities
  • Precept and orient new employees and students as assigned
  • Participate in meetings and research opportunities
  • Perform other assigned duties

  • Provide nursing care from initial contact until handoff to the accepting medical facility

  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation

  • Maintain clinical competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences

  • Maintain and document licensure, certifications, continuing education, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures

  • Use and maintain medical equipment and supplies; report failures and initiate repair steps

  • Maintain adequate onboard supplies and keep the aircraft clean and orderly

  • Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation

  • Assist with liftoff checklists and support the pilot with radio, navigation, and visual observation activities

  • Conduct aircraft safety briefings and comply with safety standards

  • Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures

  • Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up and outreach marketing and education activities

  • Precept and/or orient new employees and students as assigned

  • Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities

  • Perform other assigned duties


Requirements


  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

  • Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last five years or as required by state/local EMS regulations

  • Pre-hospital experience preferred

  • Flight experience is not required but is a plus

  • Weight not to exceed 225 pounds, including an empty flight suit and boots

  • Current RN license(s) for states of practice

  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations

  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications as required

  • Current advanced trauma provider certification (TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS) if required by state or county

  • Specialty certification (CFRN or CEN) required within 24 months of hire

  • TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course before completion of third-rider training

  • NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation

  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat before completion of third-rider training

  • Skills required to practice nursing within the assigned state scope of practice

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and 24/7 on-call rotation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
