Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Critical Care/Flight Registered Nurse to join our Air Methods CBS standards team in North Carolina. You will assess and triage patients for safe transport, provide nursing care from initial contact to handover, and maintain thorough documentation.

This role requires NC RN licensure, Paramedic license, current BLS/CPR, ACLS and PALS (or equivalents), plus advanced trauma certifications as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current RN license for North Carolina.
  • Paramedic License for North Carolina.
  • BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications.
  • Advanced trauma course certification if state/county requires.
  • NRP, ITLS, TNCC, PHTLS or CFRN/CEN as applicable within 24 months.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment for safe transport.
  • Assess illness or injury to prioritize care and transport needs.
  • Provide nursing care from initial contact until handover to accepting facility.
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation.
  • Participate in ongoing training, safety, HIPAA compliance, and continuing education.
  • Use and maintain medical equipment and supplies; report failures.
  • Keep aircraft clean and ready for rapid response.
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and post-mission debriefings.
  • Assist with liftoff checklists and pilot support activities.
  • Comply with safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed.
  • Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved procedures.
  • Participate in outreach, education, and follow-up with referring institutions.
  • Precept and orient new staff and students; engage in meetings and research.

Job description

  • Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, using Air Methods CBS standards and Medical Director guidelines
  • Assess illness or injury to establish and prioritize care for safe transport to the appropriate facility
  • Provide nursing care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility
  • Maintain thorough patient care documentation
  • Participate in ongoing laboratory, clinical, aviation, safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and continuing education activities
  • Use and maintain medical equipment and supplies; report equipment failures and ensure adequate onboard supplies
  • Keep the aircraft clean and orderly for rapid response
  • Attend pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and complete required documentation
  • Assist with liftoff checklists and pilot support activities such as radio, navigation, and visual observation
  • Comply with safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed
  • Serve as a flight resource to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures
  • Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up and outreach marketing and education
  • Precept and orient new employees and students as assigned
  • Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last five years or as required by state/local EMS regulations
  • Current RN license(s) for states of practice (NC)
  • Paramedic License for North Carolina
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications as applicable
  • Current TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if state or county required
  • Specialty certification (CFRN or CEN) required within 24 months of hire
  • One approved advanced trauma course (TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved course) before completion of third-rider training
  • NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation
  • NIMS IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat training before completion of third-rider training
  • Weight not exceeding 225 pounds including an empty flight suit and boots
  • Knowledge of nursing and advanced practice skills within assigned state scope of practice
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, overtime, and a 24/7 on-call rotation
  • Strong critical-thinking, reasoning, communication, presentation, collaboration, prioritization, and multitasking skills
  • Dependable and self-motivated in a frequently changing environment
