Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Medical Scribe to support clinicians by handling documentation and workflow in a primarily non-clinical capacity. The role observes encounters but does not perform patient care.

The scribe enters data into the EHR under provider guidance, with final attestation by the clinician. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and knowledge of medical terminology, with preferred candidates holding a bachelor’s degree in science or health-related fields.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Background in pre-health sciences or related field preferred.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology and PC applications, software, and database management.
• Understanding of medicolegal documentation, medical facility flow, efficiency management, medical terminology, pathophysiology, E/M billing basics, and ICD-10 documentation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Relieve the provider of clerical duties; focus on documentation and efficiency management.
• Enter information into the patient’s electronic chart under the provider’s direction; documentation reviewed/edited by the provider.
