Job summary

City of Hampton seeks a Fleet Coordinator to oversee maintenance, repairs, inspections, fueling, and cleaning of the fleet. You will ensure adherence to preventive maintenance schedules and fleet policies, while tracking data and managing DMV registrations.

The role supports emergency operations, weather response plans, and accreditation efforts. A safety-sensitive position requiring background checks and a Virginia driver’s license with a clean record.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in fleet management or facilities coordination.
  • Equivalent education/experience considered.
  • Must pass criminal history and background check.
  • Safety sensitive position with drug/alcohol testing per policy.
  • Must possess and maintain a Virginia driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a lead worker and assist with accreditation and compliance efforts
Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or successful completion of a GED. An Associate’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in fleet management, facilities coordination, or a related field.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history and background check before any offer of employment or promotion.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s substance abuse policy.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record based on City of Hampton criteria.
Additonal Requirments:
  • The incumbent may be designated as essential personnel during emergencies and may be required to work extended hours, unusual schedules, and be subject to 24-hour call-back.
