Job summary

The City of Hampton is seeking a Recruitment & Outreach Coordinator to support the Hampton Fire & Rescue recruitment program, focusing on volunteer firefighter/EMS recruitment and public engagement. The role encompasses coordinating events, producing promotional materials, and maintaining recruitment records.

Under the Recruitment and Training Administrator, you will build partnerships with community organizations and represent the department at events, enhancing exposure and volunteer interest

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or successful GED; preferably with college courses in Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Human Resources, or related field.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in recruitment.
• Background check: required before offer or promotion; valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Function

The purpose of the class is to assist in the development and implementation of the overall marketing plan for recruiting City of Hampton Fire and Rescue positions, with a major emphasis on volunteer firefighter/rescue squad members. Arranges speaking engagements and makes presentations at community events and meetings. Coordinates events designed to increase the Fire Department's exposure to attract volunteers. This position works under the general supervision of the Recruitment and Training Administrator.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED; preferably supplemented with college courses in Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Human Resources, or other related field of study.


• Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in recruitment.


• A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.


• Must successfully pass a background check before any offer of employment or promotion.


• Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.

Additional requirements

• Requires proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and presentation software.


• Knowledge of Fire department and EMS operations preferred.


• Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.


• The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergencies, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
