Job summary

TMC Transportation is seeking a Fleet Manager to lead a team of 35-40 drivers from our Des Moines, IA office. This full-time role focuses on meeting delivery requirements, maximizing revenue, improving driver productivity, and maintaining a superior safety record.

Responsibilities include dispatching loads, coordinating with Customer Service, ensuring policy compliance, and driving driver retention through motivation and performance management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (preferably in Transportation and Logistics) or relevant transportation experience.
• Proficient with computers and keyboard.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage stress.
• Strong planning, organization, and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
• Courteous but assertive telephone presence.

Responsibilities

• Review driver check calls to determine location and ETA.
• Review load assignments for driver suitability.
• Dispatch loads with instructions, routing, and fuel details.
• Contact customers to confirm directions and loading/delivery times.
• Notify Customer Service of issues that affect loads.
• Promote safety and adherence to drivers hours of availability.
• Monitor driver performance to support retention and motivation.
• Identify and resolve performance issues and conduct driver evaluations.
• Resolve conflicts related to hometime, pay, equipment, and loads.
• Maintain driver performance records and adhere to policies.
• Participate in Quality/Kaizen projects and company meetings.
