Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to oversee multiple shops, supervise repairs, enforce safety, and ensure quality and timely turnarounds across the fleet.

This role requires directing teams, coordinating with vehicle dealers on warranties and recalls, entering work orders in the fleet management system, and providing technical guidance and training. Class A CDL and ASE certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have comprehensive knowledge of fleet vehicle maintenance, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
• Knowledge of Virginia DOE pupil transportation maintenance regulations.
• Safety practices and hazardous material handling knowledge.
• Management and supervision practices and procedures.
• Ability to direct and organize multiple groups of employees and exercise judgment.
• Ability to analyze decisions for complex diagnostic work on fleet equipment.
• Operate fleet vehicles, testing equipment, tire service equipment, and hand tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication, and use of fleet management systems.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor productivity, repairs, and vehicle/equipment work for quality and turnaround times.
• Enforce safety regulations and good housekeeping.
• Monitor attendance and leave requests per policy.
• Provide technical advice and hands-on repair assistance.
• Provide training in safety, regulations, and fleet concepts.
• Identify tools, equipment, and facility improvements to boost efficiency.
• Participate in interview committees as requested.
• Coordinate tow dispatch and emergency field repairs.
• Oversee shop support activities like lubrication and inspections.
• Respond to emergency road calls as needed.
• Coordinate with dealers on warranties/recalls.
• Assess team performance with Fleet Manager and Director.
• Coordinate with internal/external departments.
• Use fleet management system to enter work orders and run reports.
• Deliver high-quality service to staff, agencies, and the public.
