Job summary

City of Washington is seeking a dedicated firefighter/EMT to deliver general firefighting, EMS care, and emergency response across a variety of incidents. The role involves equipment readiness, fire suppression, rescue, and post-incident operations under the incident commander’s guidance.

The candidate will maintain EMT basic/advanced skills, meet certification timelines, and participate in ongoing training while working in demanding, high-stress environments and public-facing roles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Complete Firefighter I & II within 12 months of employment if not already certified.
• If NC EMT exists but not Firefighter I & II, EMT and TSOP certification must be completed within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fires and emergency calls with EMT/Firefighting duties.
• Operates fire and EMS equipment as certified.
• Maintains records and reports for fire calls and EMS activities including billing information.
• Performs routine maintenance and servicing of equipment and apparatus.
• Attends in-service training to maintain current knowledge of firefighting and emergency medical technology.
