Job summary

The DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department is seeking a Firefighter Paramedic to deliver advanced pre-hospital care across a fast-paced, data-driven jurisdiction in the nation’s capital. You will respond to emergencies, drive medic units, perform life-support procedures, and support specialized operations while maintaining safety and adhering to protocols.

Incumbents operate from one of 33 fire houses, with rotating shifts, extensive training requirements, and rigorous certification

Qualifications

• Must pass the DC Fire and EMS Recruit Training Course.
• Pre-hospital emergency care competency through field training.
• U.S. citizenship and valid driver’s license as required.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency incidents with prompt, efficient actions.
• Drive medic unit and deploy equipment; select fastest route to scene.
• Provide advanced life support and stabilize patients en route to hospital.
• Document observations and interventions accurately for records.
• Operate in rotating shifts across a 24/7 department with PPE use.
