Job summary

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department (DCFEMS) seeks a Firefighter Paramedic to provide advanced pre-hospital care, drive medic units, and support emergency responses across the District of Columbia. The role requires current paramedic certification and firefighter credentials, with a focus on rapid, safe patient transport and precise report documentation.

Incumbents work in 24/7 operations, with rotating shifts and strict adherence to safety protocols and OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

• Must currently hold National Registry Paramedic Certification.
• National Registry Paramedic (EMT-P) Certification.
• Firefighter I and II certifications.
• Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P) certification.
• CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS certifications.
• National Registry EMT-Paramedic (NREMT-P).
• Driver’s license must be valid and current.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency medical care per protocol, including advanced life support.
• Drive medic unit to emergency locations and select direct routes.
• Maintain ALS/BLS care en route to hospital emergency department.
• Document observations and interventions for records and diagnostics.
• Respond to incidents as Firefighter Paramedic and perform rescue and extrication when needed.
