Job Summary:
The Fire Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and inspection of fire extinguishers and pre-engineered suppression systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform annual maintenance/inspections of fire extinguishers.
- Determine proper type, quantity, and placement of fire extinguishers based on hazard/occupancy classification.
- Exchange fire extinguishers that require service; replace obsolete/damaged units.
- Install fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall hangers.
- Indicate type, size, and location of fire extinguishers on inspection reports.
- Perform semi-annual inspection of restaurant and industrial fire suppression systems.
- Document findings and note deficiencies on inspection reports.
- Communicate to the customer any non-compliance issues.
- Collaborate with customers, contractors, and team members to ensure effective use of fire extinguishers and suppression systems.
- Build and develop partnerships to grow the business within the industry marketplace.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and practices for personal and team safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Certifications or training in fire extinguisher and fire suppression systems are strongly preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.
- Knowledge of basic electricity and the ability to read electrical schematic diagrams.
- Proven experience working as a portable fire extinguisher and/or fire suppression technician.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting NFPA standards (10, 17, 17a, 96) and technical manuals (Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire, etc.).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with customers and team members.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and pass a drug and background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, and have full use of hands. Occasionally required to sit, reach, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lift/move up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift/move up to 75 pounds. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Ability to work from a ladder and, in some cases, a man-lift.
- Must operate a motor vehicle and be able to travel daily.
