Job summary

Harley Ellis Devereaux (HED) seeks an experienced Fire Protection Engineer in the Chicago area. The role focuses on independent ownership of portions of project design, documentation, and coordination from concept through construction.

You will lead fire protection calculations, code research, QA/QC, and cross-discipline coordination, while mentoring junior staff and expanding client interactions. A hybrid work model is offered with in-office days to support collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Revit experience is required.
• P.E. licensure is required.
• 5+ years in the AEC industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development and calculations for fire protection systems across project phases.
• Perform fire protection design tasks including calculations, sizing, and code checks.
• Prepare system descriptions, equipment schedules, and narratives.
• Develop and review fire protection layouts in Revit with coordination across disciplines.
• Coordinate with internal and external teams to resolve design conflicts.
