Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a talented Fire Protection Engineer to join our team. You will design fire protection systems for diverse infrastructure projects, ensure life safety and compliance with federal, state and local codes, and lead technical guidance for junior staff.

The role offers a hybrid work approach across multiple U.S. offices. A PE license and 7+ years of related experience are highly desirable for this opportunity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Travel may be domestic and international as required.
• Preferred: Fire Protection Engineering degree or PE in Fire Protection; UFC/FM Global knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develop fire protection engineering designs including sprinkler, suppression, pumps and alarm systems.
• Act as QFPE for federal projects and provide life safety analysis.
• Review designs for compliance with NFPA/UFC and local regs; sign off on designs.
• Create fire protection and life safety engineering analyses (eg. egress, fire separation, hazard analysis).
• Evaluate systems using HydraCAD, HydraCALC, or similar software.
• Collaborate with sales staff to prepare RFP responses and client proposals.
• Meet with clients to assess current and future design needs; conduct site assessments.
