Job summary

WSP USA invites applications for a Fire & Life Safety Engineering Intern - Summer 2027. This full-time internship is based in multiple locations, including Boston, MA; New York, NY; Columbia, MD; Arlington, VA; Dallas, TX; and Houston, TX.

Targeted to undergrad/graduate students, it begins May 17, 2027 for a 12-week period. You will research code requirements, assist with system designs, and help perform calculations under supervision while developing practical skills in fire protection

Qualifications

Enrolled in an accredited Fire Protection Engineering or related undergraduate program with an anticipated Aug 2027 or later graduation.
Must be 18 or older and authorized to work in the United States at internship start.
Interest in Fire Protection & Life Safety and desire to develop skills related to WSP’s projects.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities; basic technical writing and office software proficiency.

Responsibilities

Research building, life safety, and fire code requirements (ICC/NFPA, IBC, NFPA 101).
Assist design of fire protection and life safety systems (sprinklers, detection, alarms, egress).
Assist in fire engineering calculations and smoke modeling from hand to 3D methods.
Assist commissioning of life safety and fire protection systems under supervision.
Support review of drawings for code compliance and contribute to design basis documents.
Learn Fire Protection Engineering principles and participate in project research and design tasks.
