Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Fire & Life Safety Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to work with our Fire & Life Safety team across multiple locations, including Houston, Dallas, and more.

This 12-week, full-time internship provides hands-on exposure to code research, system design, calculations, and commissioning, with mentorship from senior engineers and access to the Developing Professionals Network.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Fire Protection Engineering, or related Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Demonstrated interest in Fire Protection & Life Safety or related field and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.

Responsibilities

• Research building code, life safety code, and fire code requirements (ICC and NFPA; IBC and NFPA 101).
• Assist in design of fire protection and life safety systems (sprinklers, detection, alarm, smoke management, egress).
• Prepare fire engineering calculations including smoke modeling and evacuation analysis.
• Assist in commissioning of fire alarm, fire suppression, smoke control, and life safety systems.
• Review architectural drawings for code compliance and produce fire safety strategy documents.
