Job summary

WSP USA is offering a full-time Summer 2027 Fire & Life Safety Engineering Intern position in multiple cities, including Arlington, VA. The 12-week program targets undergrad/graduate students enrolled in fire protection engineering or related fields with a graduation date of August 2027 or later.

Interns will gain hands-on experience on fire protection design, life safety systems, and code research under supervision, contributing to real projects and receiving mentorship via the Developing

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited Fire Protection Engineering or related undergraduate program with Aug 2027 or later graduation.
• Must be 18+ and authorized to work in the United States at internship start.
• Demonstrated interest in Fire Protection & Life Safety and desire to learn through WSP projects.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills suitable for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Able to take direction from mentors and project leaders to execute tasks.
• Proficiency with basic office software and technical writing.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design of fire protection and life safety systems including sprinkler, detection, alarm, and egress.
• Support preparation of fire engineering calculations and smoke modeling as needed.
• Assist in commissioning of life safety systems and review drawings for code compliance.
• Perform routine engineering tasks and contribute to performance-based design approaches.
• Support project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations.
