Job summary

Pencil is seeking a Financial Controller to own financial controls, cash flow and month-end close across the finance function. reporting to Head of Finance, you will build the controls framework as Pencil scales.

You will lead management accounts review, revenue recognition, AP and treasury, guiding senior judgement calls and partnering with the Finance Manager. This is a newly created role in a fast-growing, AI-enabled SaaS company.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with UK experience (ACCA/ACA/CIMA).
• 5+ years of finance experience, incl. scale-up SaaS/tech.
• Experience owning financial controls and processes.
• Capable of cash flow forecasting and treasury management.
• Familiar with Xero, ApprovalMax, Maxio or equivalent.
• Ability to use AI to optimize finance workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own and strengthen internal control framework across all cycles.
• Review management accounts, revenue recognition, and AP runs.
• Manage monthly cash flow forecasting and treasury.
• Provide senior judgement on complex revenue recognition.
• Oversee bank payments and vendor/software governance.
• Develop AI-driven finance workflow optimizations.
