Job summary

The University of South Alabama’s Financial Aid Office is seeking to hire a Financial Aid Officer I on a full-time basis at Main Campus in Mobile, AL. The role involves counseling students, assisting with federal aid processes, and coordinating with Career Services for JLD programs.

Ideal candidates have a related bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience in financial aid or student services, with Banner experience preferred. Working hours are 8:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution; approved by University of South Alabama.
• One year of related experience in financial aid or student services.
• Banner experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Financial Aid Director and Financial Aid Manager in professional judgment cases.
• Assist in calculating satisfactory academic progress for federal aid applicants.
• Counsel and advise students and families regarding the application process for federal aid.
• Serve as the point of contact for students participating in Study Abroad programs.
• Work closely with the Financial Aid Officer II to assist with administering the Federal Work Study (FWS) and Job Location and Development (JLD) programs.
• Coordinate with Career Services regarding JLD and student employment postings, including initial postings and follow-ups to see if jobs were filled using Accelerate South (12twenty) software.
• Serve as backup for processing of timesheets for FWS students.
• Represent the Office of Financial Aid at various events, including outreach with area employers to help grow/develop JLD program at USA.
• Designs and maintains social media platforms, including developing content.
• Utilizes various Department of Education systems in determining eligibility for federal aid.
• Regular and prompt attendance.
• Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
• Related duties as required.
