Job summary

The University of South Alabama is seeking a Financial Aid Officer I to support the Financial Aid Office on the Mobile campus. This role assists with professional judgments, federal aid processes, and student counseling throughout the aid application cycle.

Ideal candidates will have a related Bachelor's degree and one year of experience; Banner experience is a plus. The position requires reliable attendance and some evening or event participation as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of related experience in financial aid or student services.
• Banner experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Financial Aid Director and Financial Aid Manager in professional judgment cases.
• Assists in calculating satisfactory academic progress for federal aid applicants.
• Counsels and advises students and families regarding the application process for federal aid.
• Serves as the point of contact for students participating in Study Abroad programs.
• Works closely with the Financial Aid Officer II to assist with administering the Federal Work Study (FWS) and Job Location and Development (JLD) programs.
• Coordinates with Career Services regarding JLD and student employment postings, including initial postings and follow-ups to see if jobs were filled using the Accelerate South (12twenty) software.
• Serves as backup for processing of timesheets for FWS students.
• Represents the Office of Financial Aid at various events, including outreach with area employers to help grow/develop JLD program at USA.
• Designs and maintains social media platforms, including developing content.
• Utilizes various Department of Education systems in determining eligibility for federal aid.
• Regular and prompt attendance.
• Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
• Related duties as required.
