Finance Assistant: Part-Time (non-exempt, up to 28 hours per week)
Department: Financial Services, SBC of Virginia & SBC of Virginia Foundation
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, flexible hybrid arrangement with up to two remote days a week

Position Summary
The Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia (SBCV) is seeking a detail-oriented and ministry-minded Finance Assistant to support the financial operations of both the SBCV and the SBCV Foundation. This position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, allowing team members to work two days remotely and two days in the office each week. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and enjoy working in a Christ-centered, collaborative team environment where staff members are committed to serving local churches, advancing the Gospel, and supporting one another in ministry.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting & Financial Support
- Process and record contributions, including electronic lockbox imports, remote deposits, and supporting documentation.
- Post and reconcile payments, fees, direct deposits, and related financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial and contribution reports for SBCV leadership, ministries, and partnering entities.
- Reconcile checking accounts and maintain accurate financial records.
- Audit financial transactions, journal entries, and contribution records for accuracy.
- Assist with preparation of payments for SBC distributions and other entities.
- Support annual audits by providing reports, reconciliations, and requested documentation.
- SBCV Foundation Support
- Assist with communications related to new and maturing investments.
- Record donations, deposits, journal entries, and designated church payments.
- Administrative & Ministry Support
- Provide administrative support to the Financial Services Director and CFO.
- Respond to phone and inquiries professionally.
- Collect and distribute incoming mail.
- Attend required staff and departmental meetings.
Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred; related accounting or bookkeeping experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Strong accounting, bookkeeping, and reconciliation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Experience with ACS financial software preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude and a servant's heart for ministry.
