NC State University seeks a Temporary Research Associate to manage permit applications and coordinate field cage trials for spotted wing Drosophila in Raleigh, NC. The role includes site preparation, cage setup, plant procurement, and collaboration with the Scott lab and APHIS to execute fly releases and ongoing monitoring.

The position requires a relevant Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s with at least 3 years of independent experience, plus expertise in genetic pest management and SWD work.

Qualifications

• Relevant Master’s degree, or relevant Bachelor’s with 3+ years of experience and related education
• Prior experience obtaining permits from federal agencies for field cage or open field trials is essential
• Experience with spotted wing Drosophila and a background in genetic pest management are preferred or beneficial

Responsabilités

• Lead the application for permit(s) from the appropriate federal agency to perform field cage trials
• Prepare the trial site including setting up cages and obtaining strawberry and/or blueberry plants
• Coordinate fly releases and monitoring with Scott lab and APHIS
• Maintain accurate records and ensure containment requirements are followed
