Job summary

S&ME in Chattanooga, TN is seeking a Construction Materials Engineering Technician to perform field testing and observations on soils, concrete, and asphalt at diverse project sites. The role includes using a company vehicle and pursuing additional certifications to advance responsibilities.

You will document data, reports, and ensure compliance with codes. Applicants should have at least 3 years of construction testing experience, a valid U.S.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience in construction testing/inspecting soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials.
• At least two active certifications from the listed bodies (ACI/ICC) or equivalent.
• Valid U.S. driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle.
• Willingness to travel up to 60% and work flexible hours.
• Strong English communication skills (speaking, reading, writing).
• High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Review project plans and requirements for fieldwork.
• Perform field testing and observations of soils, concrete, asphalt, and other materials per project/code requirements.
• Document results and reporting using Metafield and clear reports.
• Manage field technology and track data for project documentation.
• Maintain and calibrate field and lab equipment for accuracy and compliance.
• Ensure code compliance with IBC and applicable testing standards.
• Communicate updates to project teams and resolve field challenges.
