Job summary

Lumen is hiring a Field Technician I to support asset management, deliveries, and the provisioning of network materials. The role involves observing, installing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic and power equipment, with a focus on reliability and service integrity.

You will assist in deployments of Next Generation technologies, troubleshoot network issues, and maintain detailed logs and records. The position requires light physical work and on-call rotation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; up to 2 years of relevant experience with 1+ years in network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
• Knowledge of at least one major technician discipline: Transmission, Switching, TCP/IP, or Outside Plant.
• Must have PC skills and be proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots network equipment, replaces defective parts, and works to restore service.
• Assists in installation/change/decommission and testing of Next Generation technologies (Edge Compute, Fiber, Ethernet, IP).
• Install/test network and CPE equipment for end-user services as needed.
• Uses standard tools to locate and protect underground facilities.
• Performs preventive maintenance on network and critical infrastructure equipment (HVAC, power systems).
• Maintains asset records, tracks inventory, and coordinates shipping/receiving of materials.
• Updates trouble tickets and provides status reports to management.
