Job summary

The United Illuminating Company is seeking a Field Technician C in Connecticut, Orange location, to support the Customer Field Service department. You’ll learn and apply electrical design basics, prepare work requests, and maintain data in SAP and GIS systems while advancing toward an Associate Science Degree.

The role requires a high school diploma, internship or degree progression plans, and willingness to participate in storm and emergency work with strong safety adherence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Enroll in Associate Science Degree within 90 days of hire.
• Within 1 year, complete 3 more credits toward degree; eligible for level progression.
• Degree within 3 years while in role.
• Potential progression to Field Technician B after degree and skill demo.
• 10 years experience acceptable in lieu of degree.
• Must have valid driver's license and safe driving record.
• Must be available for storm/emergency assignments and extended hours.
• Must adhere to safety policies and perform essential functions.

Responsibilities

• Learn electric codes and work practices (NESC, NEC, OSHA, UI standards).
• Prepare work requests for smaller designs and assist in related tasks.
• Gather customer requirements and prepare accurate project documents.
• Act as customer advocate and coordinate with management and customers.
• Organize information and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Provide support to others and work under supervision to meet deadlines.
• Undergo glove training for height measurements on poles and wires.
• Respond to emergencies and provide 24-hour coverage as needed.
• Interacting professionally with coworkers, management, and external organizations.
