Job summary

THE UNITED ILLUMINATING COMPANY is hiring a Field Technician C in Connecticut (Orange). This role supports the Customer Field Service department, assists with smaller design work, and maintains data in SAP and GIS systems. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Requires a high school diploma or GED, with progression toward an Associate Science Degree in engineering or related field within 3 years; valid driver’s license required and willingness to respond to emergencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must enroll in Associates Science Degree within 90 days of hire while in the department.
• Within 3 years obtain an Associates Science Degree or progression to Field Technician B.
• 10 years of experience in distribution/line work acceptable in lieu of degree.
• Valid drivers’ license with clean record required.
• Willingness for storm/emergency assignments and extended hours.

Responsibilities

• Learn electric codes and work practices (NESC, NEC, OSHA, UI standards).
• Prepare work requests for smaller designs and assist in design work.
• Gather customer requirements and prepare project documents.
• Support Customer Field Service Department and assist in field notes.
• Available for 24-hour storm restoration or emergency work.
