Job summary

ECS Limited in Birmingham, AL, seeks a Specialty Technician I to perform field-based destructive and non-destructive testing, inspection, and observation for specialty construction materials testing projects. You will develop technical competency under supervision, focusing on structural steel inspections and NDE, while maintaining a customer‑oriented approach.

This role emphasizes field work, documentation, and collaboration with project teams.

Qualifications

• 2 years of related experience
• High school diploma or GED required
• Two specialty certifications applicable to the work; OSHA 10 may be required
• Valid driver's license required
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Basic math and data documentation skills
• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and instructions

Responsibilities

• Performs destructive and non-destructive testing on construction materials
• Inspects structural steel, reinforcing steel, and connections (welded and bolted)
• Performs field observations and collects samples for testing
• Documents findings per engineering and inspection standards
• Communicates daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers
• Reports changes in site conditions and additional testing needs
• Performs inspections in fabrication facilities when required
• Prepares and submits daily field reports and documentation
• Performs basic calculations and data reduction tasks
• Maintains and organizes field testing equipment
• Notifies supervisors of damaged or missing equipment
• Attends project meetings as requested
• Performs other specialty testing and inspection duties as assigned
