Job summary

Kapsch TrafficCom North America is seeking a Field Service Technician II to perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ITS devices for the Memphis SmartWay system. You’ll handle CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems and network infrastructure in an on-site Memphis role.

The ideal candidate has an Associate degree in Electronics or Computer Science or equivalent field experience, strong troubleshooting, and the ability to read schematics.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, or +6 years of relevant field experience (ITS or similar preferred).
• Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, fiber optic, and network systems.
• Ability to read schematics and technical plans.
• Experience with electronic testing equipment.
• Knowledge of low voltage systems, networking, and wireless communications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and basic Office tools.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Outdoor and roadside work near active traffic and elevated equipment.
• On-call rotation (approximately one week per month).
• Non-standard hours including nights and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on ITS systems
• Respond to and resolve trouble tickets within required timelines
• Diagnose and repair complex issues across multiple ITS devices
• Maintain and support systems including CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, wireless communications, fiber optic networks, and network equipment
• Install, upgrade, modify, and replace ITS equipment as required
• Utilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot system faults
• Maintain accurate daily logs, labor tracking, and service records
• Receive and manage inventory and assist with material requests
• Support subcontractors and ensure work meets quality and specification standards
• Assist and guide junior technicians in field operations

The Field Service Technician II is a role responsible for advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and infrastructure supporting the Memphis SmartWay system.

How You'll Make an Impact

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on ITS systems
• Respond to and resolve trouble tickets within required timelines
• Diagnose and repair complex issues across multiple ITS devices
• Maintain and support systems including CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, wireless communications, fiber optic networks, and network equipment
• Perform utility locating for fiber and power infrastructure
• Install, upgrade, modify, and replace ITS equipment as required
• Utilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot system faults
• Maintain accurate daily logs, labor tracking, and service records
• Receive and manage inventory and assist with material requests
