Job summary

Kapsch TrafficCom in Memphis is seeking a Field Service Technician II to perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ITS devices and infrastructure supporting the Memphis SmartWay system.

You will diagnose complex issues across CCTV, DMS, HAR, fiber networks, and wireless systems, maintain logs, support inventory, and guide junior technicians, with on-call duties and non-standard hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Electronics, CS, or +6 years field experience preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting across electrical, fiber, and network systems.
• Ability to read schematics and technical plans.
• Experience with electronic testing equipment.
• Knowledge of low voltage, networking, and wireless.”
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and basic Office tools.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Outdoor/roadside work near traffic and elevated equipment.
• On-call rotation about one week per month.
• Non-standard hours including nights and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on ITS systems.
• Respond to and resolve trouble tickets within required timelines.
• Diagnose and repair complex issues across ITS devices.
• Maintain CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, network equipment.
• Install, upgrade, modify, replace ITS equipment as required.
• Utilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot faults.
• Maintain accurate daily logs, labor tracking, and service records.
• Receive and manage inventory and assist with material requests.
• Support subcontractors and ensure work meets standards.
• Assist and guide junior technicians in field operations.

The Field Service Technician II

is a role responsible for advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and infrastructure supporting the Memphis SmartWay system.

How You\'ll Make An Impact

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on ITS systems
• Respond to and resolve trouble tickets within required timelines
• Diagnose and repair complex issues across multiple ITS devices
• Maintain and support systems including CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, wireless communications, fiber optic networks, and network equipment
• Perform utility locating for fiber and power infrastructure
• Install, upgrade, modify, and replace ITS equipment as required
• Utilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot system faults
• Maintain accurate daily logs, labor tracking, and service records
• Receive and manage inventory and assist with material requests
• Support subcontractors and ensure work meets quality and specification standards
• Assist and guide junior technicians in field operations

What Makes You a Great Fit

• Associate’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, or +6 years of relevant field experience (ITS or similar preferred)
• Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, fiber optic, and network systems
• Ability to read schematics and technical plans
• Experience with electronic testing equipment
• Knowledge of low voltage systems, networking, and wireless communications
• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and basic Office tools
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Outdoor and roadside work near active traffic and elevated equipment
• On-call rotation (approximately one week per month)
• Non-standard hours including nights and weekends as needed

Highly desired

• Experience with ITS/SmartWay systems
• Hands-on work with CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, and network infrastructure
• RF or microwave communication experience
• Roadside or transportation system experience
• CDL preferred or ability to obtain one, Must obtain once hired
