Job summary

Sierra Spectra in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area is seeking a Field Services Engineer. This full-time hybrid role combines on-site instrument installation, configuration and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) with remote support and documentation.

You will service LC/MS, GC/MS, TOC, and UV-Vis systems at client facilities, perform troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and optimize performance to meet regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Field service experience with analytical instrumentation, including on-site installation and configuration.
• Strong troubleshooting and technical support for hardware, software, and applications.
• Preventive maintenance to sustain instrument reliability and compliance.
• Excellent customer service to manage expectations and relationships with labs.
• Knowledge of LC/MS, GC/MS, TOC and UV-Vis and IQ/OQ/PQ concepts.

Role Description The Field Services Engineer is a full-time, hybrid role based in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, with a mix of on-site client visits and work-from-home tasks such as documentation and remote support. This role is responsible for installing, configuring, and qualifying laboratory instruments, particularly LC/MS, GC/MS, TOC, and UV-Vis systems, at client facilities. Day-to-day activities include performing troubleshooting and repairs, conducting preventive maintenance, and optimizing instrument performance to meet analytical and regulatory requirements. The Field Services Engineer will provide technical support and training to laboratory staff, document service activities, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure high-quality, compliant service delivery. The position requires regular local travel to customer sites, clear communication with stakeholders, and a strong focus on customer service and safety.

Qualifications

• Field Service experience with complex laboratory or analytical instrumentation, including on-site installation and configuration.
• Strong troubleshooting and technical support skills for diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and application issues.
• Proficiency in preventive maintenance practices to sustain instrument reliability, performance, and compliance.
• Customer service skills to communicate clearly, manage expectations, and build trusted relationships with laboratory personnel.
• Knowledge of analytical technologies such as LC/MS, GC/MS, TOC, and UV-Vis, and familiarity with IQ/OQ/PQ and regulatory compliance concepts.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Ability to work independently in the field, manage schedules, and produce clear service reports and documentation.
• Comfort with local travel across the San Francisco Bay Area as well as travel to areas outside of California and adherence to safe working practices in lab environments.
