Job summary

Smiths Detection, a global leader in detection and screening technologies, is seeking a field service professional for the Chicago metro area. The role requires daily travel to customer locations including ORD and surrounding sites to install, repair, and train on equipment.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or related trade certification in electrical/electronic/mechanical fields, 1–3 years of field service experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree/Related Trade Certification (electrical, electronic, mechanical) or Military Training. Equivalence by work experience acceptable.
• Minimum of 1-3 years experience in troubleshooting and field repair of electrical/electronic systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Meet daily service repair needs and drive customer satisfaction.
• Install, repair and maintain equipment in the field; provide customer training as required.
• Document inspections, maintenance and repairs; submit paperwork timely.
• Order, install and return parts; manage repair parts cycle time.
• Review logs for open issues and prepare formal reports to customers.
• Support service sales opportunities and promote revenue programs.
• Ensure tools and test equipment are maintained and calibrated.
• Assess product/equipment performance; suggest modifications or improvements.
• Provide technical support to customers and other service professionals.
• May participate in site surveys and pilot program service activities.
