Role Description This is a full-time hybrid Field Service Technician role based in Richmond, VA, with some work-from-home flexibility for administrative and remote support tasks. The Field Service Technician will install, commission, maintain, and repair heavy-duty automation systems and machines at customer sites and within the local facility. Daily responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control issues, performing preventive maintenance, and documenting service activities in a clear, timely manner. The role involves collaborating with engineering and production teams, training customers on safe and effective equipment operation, and providing remote technical support when appropriate. Travel within the region is required to support customer installations, emergency service calls, and scheduled maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in industrial machinery, automation systems, or related equipment service.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, control panels, and basic PLC interfaces; ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, hand and power tools, and test equipment for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Solid documentation and communication skills for writing service reports, updating maintenance records, and communicating with customers and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently in the field, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing service priorities.
  • Commitment to safety standards and best practices in industrial environments.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or associate degree in a mechanical, electrical, or industrial discipline is preferred.
  • Prior field service or maintenance experience in manufacturing or automation is highly beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites as needed.
