Job description

A well established manufacturer of engineered equipment serving essential infrastructure and industrial markets is seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to support customers. This is a highly independent, customer facing position for a technician who enjoys diagnosing complex mechanical and controls issues, working directly with customers, and taking ownership of equipment performance in the field. The position involves approximately 100 percent travel, with four nights away from home during a typical week.

Professional Responsibility and Scope

The Field Service Technician will be responsible for startup support, equipment inspections, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repairs, rebuilds, and onsite technical support for engineered mechanical and infrastructure equipment. The technician will evaluate equipment condition, identify causes of failure, recommend appropriate corrective action, and complete repairs while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and professional customer service.

The role also involves working with industrial controls, measurement devices, instrumentation, electrical and pneumatic connections, and equipment communication systems. Technicians must be comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, assembly documentation, process information, and service procedures while using precision measurement equipment to assess component condition and equipment performance.

Customer interaction is an important part of the position. The technician will discuss service requirements, communicate findings, provide recommendations, deliver status updates, document completed work, and provide equipment training when appropriate. The position may also support engineering teams with system modifications, equipment applications, and safety related evaluations.

Location and Lifestyle Context

This position supports customers throughout your region and is designed for a technician who is comfortable with a travel intensive lifestyle. Travel is approximately 100 percent and commonly includes four overnight stays per week, with occasional short notice assignments based on customer requirements. The position offers considerable independence and variety for someone who prefers working at customer facilities rather than remaining in a traditional plant or office environment.

Long Term Professional Growth

The position provides significant exposure to mechanical systems, instrumentation, controls, equipment diagnostics, customer operations, and engineered infrastructure applications. A successful technician can continue developing advanced troubleshooting capabilities while becoming a trusted technical resource for customers and internal engineering teams. The breadth of customer environments and equipment encountered in the field creates opportunities to deepen technical expertise and expand professional responsibility over time.

Compensation

The anticipated annual base compensation range is approximately $45,000 to $90,000, depending on experience and technical qualifications and location. The organization also provides an incentive program that includes profit sharing along with comprehensive health benefits, employer supported retirement benefits, education assistance, and additional employee benefits.

Team Environment and Leadership Approach

The organization promotes technical curiosity, individual ownership, and cooperation between field service, engineering, operations, and customer support teams. Field technicians are trusted to make informed decisions onsite while having access to additional technical resources when complex situations require broader expertise. The environment is well suited for professionals who appreciate autonomy while remaining connected to an experienced technical organization.

Organizational Stability and Industry Position

The employer is an established manufacturer and service organization supporting essential infrastructure and industrial applications. Its equipment operates in demanding environments where equipment availability, efficiency, and responsive technical service are important to customer operations. The company maintains an established customer base and provides both engineered equipment and ongoing technical support, creating consistent demand for experienced field service professionals.

Experience and Qualification Summary

Qualified candidates should have at least four years of field service, equipment repair, or closely related technical experience. A high school diploma is required, while an associate degree in electronics technology or a related technical discipline is preferred. Significant relevant field experience may substitute for formal technical education.

Candidates should be capable of reading electrical, mechanical, and assembly diagrams and should have experience using precision measurement instruments, hand tools, power tools, hydraulic equipment, and other service equipment commonly required for industrial machinery. Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment, instrumentation, controls, electrical connections, and industrial communication systems is strongly preferred. Candidates must also maintain a clean driving record and be comfortable working independently in customer facilities while traveling extensively throughout the region.
