Job summary

Archetype Services in Chicago is seeking a Field Service Engineer to troubleshoot and program building automation control systems, work with contractors and end-users, and ensure code compliance.

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service, hands-on problem solving, travel up to 75%, and a reliable vehicle. Training on manufacturers is provided, and the role offers collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Experience with troubleshooting electrical systems and proficiency with signal flow, equipment functionality, and programming.
• Experience in low-voltage system installation and/or setup, including lighting control and related systems.
• Strong client communication and ability to manage expectations with diverse customers.

Responsibilities

• Provision and troubleshoot control systems serviced by Archetype Services and as designed per electrical plans/energy code.
• Coordinate with on-site contractors and facility managers to ensure proper system installation.
• Integrate control products with 3rd party systems.
• Identify and mitigate risks and customer impact; manage escalations; balance business needs with technical constraints.
• Troubleshoot unresponsive devices/systems or work with manufacturers on replacement or repair.
• Capture and share best-practice knowledge.
• Over-communicate, be passionate, be flexible, be innovative, be customer focused, and be honest.

A successful Field ServiceEngineerwill not be afraid to ask the right questions to understand the system design intent and the client’s needs.

Archetype Services currently supportsthe following controls manufacturers: LeGrand DLM&WattstopperPlus,SignifyDynalite &Interact Pro Scalable,Pharos, Color Kinetics,Bubblynetand more.Training is provided for each manufacturer and isongoingthroughout the Field Service’s Engineer’stenure.

Qualifications and Skills

• Strong customer service,verbal,and written communication skills
• Experience with troubleshooting electrical systemsandproficiencywith signal flow, equipment functionality, and programming
• Experiencein low-voltage system installation and/or setup, including but not limitedtolighting control, technical theater, high-end homeautomation,computer networking experienceisa plus, but not required.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues with minimalassistance; solution focused
• Ability to organize and manage time effectively under strict timelines within a fast-paced environment
• Comfortableinteractingwithand understandingtheclient’sneeds and managing expectationswith various ranges of customers fromdifferentbackgroundsand understandings.
• Proficient in computer operation skills including file management, Outlook/Teamsand other interpersonal communications software, web navigation, and Microsoft-based productivity software.
• Expectation of travelling75%of time once factory certified.
• Must haveareliable vehiclewithvalid driver's license& insurance
