Job summary

Lighting Environments is seeking a Field Service Technician to perform on-site programming and commissioning of lighting and building control systems across the MD, DC, and VA regions. You will handle projects ranging from simple to complex, including IoT and networked controls, across hospitality and commercial environments.

You will train customers, program equipment, and provide support while documenting configurations and collaborating with the team to deliver reliable systems.

MORE SPECIFICALLY, WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Field Service Technician performs on-site programming and commissioning of lighting control and building control systems within the MD, DC, and VA territories. Projects range from simple stand‑alone systems to complex network systems to hospitality to architainment lighting, as well as IoT systems, encompassing controls outside of the normal lighting scope.

A day in the life of a Field Service Technician may include the following:

• Conducting pre-installation calls and/or visits with electrical contractors and additional follow-up calls or meetings as required for successful completion of the project
• Travelling to job sites in various phases of construction across the MD, DC, and VA territories to examine installation of hardware and testing equipment
• Technically training customers at all levels of the construction process, including contractors and end‑users, on the use and maintenance of the lighting and building control systems installed in a tactful, technically proficient, service‑oriented manner
• Programming equipment, either on job sites or remotely, as dictated by the project needs
• Contacting manufacturer’s technical support as needed for guidance on system intricacies or complex problems
• Documenting and maintaining project hardware, software, firmware, and full system configuration
• Providing technical support on our controls lines in support of pre‑sale and post‑sale activities
• Reviewing controls designs to ensure components meet the specified functions
• Supporting in‑office control system projects for Lighting Environments and Environments including research, installation, programming, adjustment, and/or configuration of components

Compensation

The information below reflects the anticipated initial base salary range. Should an employment offer be extended, the base salary offered will account for several factors, including but not limited to experience, skills, education, certifications, etc. Depending on an individual's job‑relevant qualifications, the range may be exceeded.

• Field Service Technician: $60,000 - $75,000 base salary

Requirements

TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, YOU HAVE

• A high school diploma or equivalent
• The ability and willingness to travel to job sites in the MD, DC, and VA areas
• A valid driver’s license and vehicle (Note: Your driving record may be subject to review.)
• Experience with lighting control systems, audio/visual building systems, IoT systems, and/or logic controller programming or commissioning
• The ability to read and understand technical and construction drawings
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
• The physical ability to lift or carry packages of up to 50 pounds short distances, as well as the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and stoop for extended periods of time

BONUS POINTS FOR HAVING

• Prior field experience programming and commissioning lighting control and building control systems
• An associate degree or certifications in a relevant field, such as Lighting, Technical Theatre, or Electrical Engineering
• Experience with Bluebeam and AutoCAD
