Job summary

Industrial Machinery Manufacturing is seeking a Field Service Engineer to install, commission, and start up SMT and industrial automation equipment at customer sites in Phoenix, AZ. You will troubleshoot complex issues, provide training, and collaborate with engineering teams to drive process improvements.

The role requires up to 75% travel nationwide, a mechanical or electrical engineering background, and strong diagnostic skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent training/experience.
• Experience with SMT equipment or similar automation machinery.
• Strong diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance background.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechatronic diagrams.
• Proficient with Windows OS, software installation, and system configuration.
• Basic networking knowledge and understanding of industrial automation.
• Strong problem-solving and customer-focused mindset.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% and valid driver's license.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Deliver operator and maintenance training to customers.

• Collect and analyze data to support troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
• Prepare service reports and technical documentation.
• Serve as liaison between customers and internal engineering teams.
• Communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Travel extensively including overnight travel.

What will you do:

• Install, configure, commission, and start up SMT and industrial automation equipment at customer sites.
• Perform equipment retrofits, upgrades, and custom modifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and process-related issues both onsite and remotely.
• Provide advanced technical support to minimize customer downtime and **escalate** complex issues to engineering teams when needed.
• Deliver operator and maintenance training to customer personnel.
• Advise customers on process optimization, preventive maintenance, and equipment efficiency improvements.
• Collect and analyze technical data to support troubleshooting, reliability tracking, and continuous process improvement.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of technical education, military training, and relevant experience.
• Experience with SMT equipment or similar industrial automation machinery preferred.
• Strong background in mechanical and electrical diagnostics, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and mechatronic system diagrams.
• Proficiency with Windows-based operating systems, software installation, and system configuration.
• Basic knowledge of networking concepts and modern computing applications.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a customer-focused mindset.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel extensively by air and car, including overnight travel.
