Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Safety Specialist to develop, implement, and audit Site Specific Safety Plans across projects in the Eastern District. You will support safety program adoption in the field, verify compliance with OSHA/MSHA standards, and help drive corrective actions.

This is an entry-level safety role with growth potential in a major construction company. The role requires collaboration with operations and craft teams, effective communication, and the ability to access diverse work sites.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30, 500 and 510 certifications.
• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of construction safety and OSHA requirements.
• Certification as a Safety Professional or EMT preferred.
• Working knowledge of computers; MS Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to access all points of a construction site in various conditions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the development, review, updating, and communication of the SSSP to everyone including subcontractors.
• Collaborate with the craft daily to promote buy-in of the safety program and support ownership.
• Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure adherence to policies and plans.
• Plan, prioritize, and problem-solve with operations using leading indicator trends.
• Encourage, support, and advise staff to execute the SSSP.
• Maintain project files per OSHA/MSHA regulations and company policies.
• Assist with first aid and relationship-building with EMS and clinics.
• Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Complete daily hazard inspections and help implement corrective actions.
• Review work plans and packs prior to start of work.
• Provide safety training on policies, OSHA/MSHA, NCCER, SIMS, orientation, and client requirements.
