Job summary

Benesch seeks an entry-level Environmental Scientist to join our robust Natural Resources team. The role supports project managers on wetlands, endangered species, and water-permitting projects, with primary duties in an office or remote office setting and occasional fieldwork.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Biology or Environmental Sciences with 1–4 years of related experience, plus familiarity with wetland delineation, botanical surveys, and regulatory permitting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences with 1–4 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in wetland delineation, botanical surveys, and surveys related to threatened and endangered species.
• Familiarity with native vegetation identification and state and federal environmental permitting.
• Previous experience in renewable energy projects is a plus.
• Knowledge of state and federal permitting processes is desired.
• Proficiency in technical writing and experience in quality assurance/quality control of data and reporting are essential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fieldwork tasks such as wetland delineations, natural resources inventories, and environmental surveys.
• Provide technical support for permit compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Be prepared for frequent travel, including overnight stays both within and outside the state.
• Assist project managers with various tasks to ensure project success.
• Manage project schedules and budgets to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
• Contribute to project proposals and collaborate with team members.
• Stay updated on federal and regional regulations.
• Build relationships with relevant agencies and represent Benesch as a subject matter expert.
