Job summary

American Electric Power in Texas is seeking a Meter Service Technician to disconnect, reconnect, remove and install single-phase and three-phase kilowatt-hour meters up to 260 volts and related AMI equipment. The role includes meter reading, investigating irregular readings, tamper alerts, and assisting with meter inventory.

You will also provide support to first responders and meter electricians as needed, work overtime or on call as required, and maintain safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• One year experience in meter reading or related experience preferred.
• Basic understanding of electricity.
• Acceptable written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Disconnect and reconnect electrical service to customers up to 260 volts.
• Remove, install, or change meters when needed; bypass meters when required.
• Respond to service calls on installations within voltage limits.
• Inspect, test, and inventory meters and related equipment.
• Read billing and non-billing meters; assist with amI equipment.
