Job summary

Border States is seeking a metering technician to join our field team. The role focuses on installing, removing, and verifying electric meters, taking voltages, and documenting conditions at customer sites.

This is a field-oriented position with minimal indoor time and a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork. Primary duties include deploying AMR/AMI gear, validating meter wiring, and performing accuracy tests on residential installations, with travel to various sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age
• High School degree or GED
• A background in electricity is a plus but not required
• Requires a valid driver's license
• Experience with basic hand tools
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

Responsibilities

• Observes conditions at time of service; hazardous conditions require contact with lead technician
• Deploys AMR/AMI equipment
• Typically works with single phase and low voltage systems
• Removes and replaces existing electric meters
• Takes and records voltages
• Takes required photos of various conditions at the location
• Notes non-hazardous anomalies to assist utility personnel
• Inspects and verifies meter wiring and equipment conditions
• Verifies accuracy of meters and connected equipment
• Determines correct billing multiplier in use (Voltage and Current Transformers)
• Verifies ratio accuracy of current transformers under loads
• Conducts ANSI C-12-meter accuracy tests and calibration on residential installations
• Troubleshoots metering installations to identify losses
• Follows safety standards and maintains safe work environment
• Completes reports and forwards to lead technician
• Attends daily Tailgate Meetings for safety guidance
• Performs other duties as assigned by manager or designate
