Job summary

State of Oklahoma’s Department of Education seeks a Literacy Coach to lead reading instruction, align with IEPs/504s, and partner with schools, families, and communities to advance literacy outcomes. You will use explicit, multisensory methods and data-informed interventions to support struggling readers across assigned regions.

This 90% field role requires travel to coaching schools, statewide professional development, and occasional department meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Literacy, or related field (transcripts required).
• 5 years of successful literacy instruction (elementary/early childhood) OR
• Master’s degree with 3 years of literacy instruction experience (transcripts required).
• Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate.
• 30+ hours of literacy training based on the science of reading (e.g., LETRS, AIM Pathways, IMSE).
• Pass the Oklahoma Foundations of Reading test within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge & Expertise: understand science of reading and multisensory instruction; apply evidence-based strategies.
• Compliance: follow Strong Reader’s Act and state literacy standards; know IEPs and 504 plans.
• Collaboration & Support: build partnerships with schools, districts, families and community.
• Reading and Associated Difficulties: address reading difficulties with evidence-based interventions.
• Continuous Improvement: stay updated on state/national literacy policies and standards.
