Job summary

The Literacy Coach at the Oklahoma Department of Education serves as an instructional leader, promoting evidence-based literacy practices across districts. You will support reading development through explicit, systematic instruction and collaborate with teachers, special education teams, and families to implement targeted interventions.

The role emphasizes staying current with state literacy policies, assisting schools with MTSS, data analysis, and ensuring compliance with the Strong Reader’s

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Literacy, or a related field (transcripts required).
• Five (5) years of successful literacy instruction experience (primarily elementary/early childhood) OR Master’s degree with three (3) years of literacy instruction experience.
• Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate; 30+ hours of literacy training based on the science of reading (e.g., LETRS, AIM Pathways, IMSE).
• Pass the Oklahoma Foundations of Reading test within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Lead literacy development initiatives and identify effective reading interventions.
• Collaborate with special education teams to align practices with IEPs and 504 plans.
• Travel to assigned coaching schools (up to 70% in-state) and support districts statewide.
• Provide guidance to schools and districts on state literacy policies and standards.
