Job summary

Last Energy is seeking a hands-on Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to support integration, deployment, and lifecycle management of industrial instrumentation, electrical, and control systems in a safety-critical nuclear environment.

You will work with vendors, fabricators, technicians, and operations to translate requirements into reliable, field-ready systems and to lead or support SAT/FAT, loop checks, and startup activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • 3+ years in industrial electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Hands-on with PLC-based control systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
  • Experience in field deployment, commissioning and testing.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts (IEC 62443).
  • Experience in safety-critical industries.

Responsibilities

  • Define functional requirements for PLCs, HMIs, remote I/O, and safety devices.
  • Review vendor deliverables for technical adequacy.
  • Oversee PLC/HMI designs to ensure modular, testable systems.
  • Integrate electrical, instrumentation, and automation into architectures.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes.
  • Specify field instrumentation (pressure, temp, flow, etc.).
  • Review drawings and wiring packages produced by vendors.
  • Coordinate with vendors, technicians, and operations.
  • Lead or support SAT, FAT, loop checks, and startup activities.
  • Provide troubleshooting for installed systems in operations.
  • Ensure DOE safety basis compliance for nuclear facilities.
  • Maintain configuration control of hardware/software changes.
