Job description

We are united by a single, urgent, and optimistic mission: electrify to thrive and decarbonize. The world needs us to accelerate the transition to more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy.

As a Senior Instrumentation Engineer within Instrument Application Engineering, you will be responsible for strategic planning, requirements development, application selection, inspection, testing, analysis, evaluation, qualification, and technical oversight to meet functional, performance, process, customer, and regulatory requirements.

This role focuses on advanced Boiling Water Reactor technology where under-vessel instrumentation expertise is required. The role requires understanding of reactor design, local power range monitoring, wide range neutron monitoring, heater junction thermocouples, gamma-thermometers, reactor core quadrants, operational requirements of nuclear instrumentation, and rod control interaction with nuclear instruments. Knowledge of rod testing evolutions, nuclear fuel distributions, and reactor core physics is desired. This position serves as a technical thought leader for the Instrumentation & Control and Electrical team.

Responsibilities
  • Define and lifecycle-manage system requirements through commissioning, including plant, system, and component interfaces, function, performance, process, qualification, standards, regulatory guidance, certification or licensing commitments, human factors, safety, reliability, and cyber security.
  • Work with design partners on reactor under-vessel scope associated with local power range monitors, wide range monitoring systems, gamma-thermometers, heater junction thermocouples, under-vessel mechanical components, and other nuclear instrumentation.
  • Understand or develop expertise in nuclear reactor physics and instrumentation sensor applications for neutron, temperature, pressure, level, flow, and related monitoring parameters.
  • Lead evaluation, selection, and application of instrumentation/sensor/transducer engineering techniques within an integrated plant design environment.
  • Lead selection and application of instrumentation for electrical, HVAC, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, ultrasonic, and radiation monitoring systems using both analog and digital smart instrumentation.
  • Provide technical oversight of instrumentation requirements and ensure engineering deliverables are on specification, on budget, and on schedule.
  • Support procurement activities including development of specification packages, supplier evaluation, and response to technical inquiries.
  • Develop and implement plans to address and close regulatory design certification and plant licensing items including DAC and ITAAC.
  • Establish productive working relationships and provide technical expertise to EPC teams, project management, suppliers, regulators, customers, and external engineering organizations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.
  • 8 years of engineering experience working with instrumentation in industrial facility design, preferably within a nuclear power plant engineering environment.
  • 8 years of experience with electrical one-line diagrams and mechanical process piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • 8 years of experience using design/development, analysis, drawing, change, configuration, document, and workflow management systems.
  • 8 years of experience applying one or more of the following standards: IEC, NEC, CSA, ANSI, IEEE, ISA, ISO, NFPA, ASME, API.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Preferred work location is Wilmington, NC; highly qualified US-based remote candidates will be considered.
  • Must be able to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information.
